Adult onset diabetes is a common form of diabetes which is mostly seen in diabetic people. It takes up to 90 percent of diabetes cases. Diet is the main cause of diabetes. The symptoms of adult onset diabetes appear slowly and most of the times it makes difficult to recognize it.

Adult onset diabetes is to people who are above 40 plus age and here insulin is not a must dose here so it is known as non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Here the insulin produced is low or not sufficient or the receptors of the cells do not react to insulin produced which is commonly known as insulin resistance.

In insulin resistance the body creates more and more insulin which in turn develops resistance to itself and there is low production in insulin.

Diabetes is mainly classified into two types Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is also known by the names early onset diabetes and juvenile diabetes. It is common to children and teenagers.

The good point is that gestational diabetes may last only for short interval of time i.e. up to delivery if proper care is taken by the mother. On the other hand it may lead to type 2 diabetes.
