Diabetes is a disease and it can be fatal in some situations, however it also can be easily maintained. If you have the proper information and are taking care of your health the way that you should be with managing your medication and your food intake you can in fact live quite a normal life. There are also things you need to make sure you are practicing in day to day life to avoid and lower your chances of getting diabetes at all. It does happen to be a genetic disease so if your family has had a history of it your chances are higher which means it is even more important to stay on top of everything to avoid further complications.
Type 1 diabetes is actually the body’s inability to produce insulin and it is estimated that 5-10% of Americans who are diagnosed end up having type 1. Type 2 diabetes is actually the occurrence of the body’s resistance to insulin preventing the body from properly using it.
The other type is Type 2 diabetes which is the form where your body actually has a resistance to insulin, therefore preventing it from being used properly in your body. Usually most Americans when diagnosed are diagnosed with Type 2. There is also another form of diabetes called pre-diabetes which happens to be the result of the body’s blood glucose levels being too high but not quite high enough to be registered as Type 2.
Unfortunately our reaction to news of any kind involving a disease is to panic and be afraid for ourselves or our loved ones. The truth is you should try to set aside your emotions for the moment and begin to thoroughly research the disease to understand everything it is that you can about it. That way you can understand how to treat it and what to do in various situations.
